Antonio Mattos "Tantão" was born in 1963 in São Gonçalo, in the state of
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Both a painter and musician, he is a long-time
member of the Rio de Janeiro underground scene. He founded the cult
1980s post-punk band "Black Future" and more recently "Tantão and the
Fitas". As a visual artist, his abstract paintings and drawings depict the city and soundscapes of Rio. His career includes several exhibitions in Brazil and abroad and several partnerships and friendships: "in the street only with allies." In 2022, his work was shown at the Tropigalpão (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) as part of the exhibition "Eu sou o Rio" (curators: Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster and Pablo León de la Barra.)
