On the occasion of the launch of a new agnès b. artists’ T-shirts collection next March, agnès b. presents in echo the exhibition Nos Icônes Pop from Rafael Gray, a series of portraits created specially for this line.
Rafael Gray has been collaborating with agnès b. and the galerie du jour for more than 30 years, without lacking his atypical trajectory of contemporary artist committed in margin … “Outsider”.
From Pop Culture to Free Representation, via Street-art of which he is one of the pioneers; from the streets worldwide, Rafael Gray pursues his painter’s work, realizes movies, and journeys searching for differences. Pirate, who sees in the nomadism a poetics which he tries to apply to his searches, which explore travels and encounters, with collages of various aesthetics, which distorts codes and takes us back with certain conventional ideas. Avoiding labels and style, his work questions the role of images by decontextualizing them.
For the command “Our Pop Icons”, Rafael Gray painted in a graphic style deliberately Pop some artists who have profoundly changed the creation and our society since the 1950s. From Warhol to Alan Ginsberg, from Patti Smith to David Bowie, icons that also reflect agnès b’s intimate universe.
