Created in the post-war years, the drawings from the Zina de Plagny Workshop reveal a surprising modernity which agnès b. did not miss. She includes a selection of original patterns in her designs which very naturally blend in with the spirit of her collection.
The young Zina de Plagny quickly moves towards learning textile design. She starts working as a designer for different fashion houses and decides, after the war, to create the Zina de Plagny Workshop.
The workshop is a success and the diversity of its sources of inspiration leads it to produce very eclectic designs. The Slavic iconography of her childhood is one of Zina’s trademarks, the other would be inspired by contemporary paintings in the style of Dufy or Matisse.
She renounces her activity for the benefit of her family, who after her death in 2000 cannot be resolved to finalize this beautiful story.
In 2009, a Zina de Plagny retrospective is presented by the Museum of Art and Industry of Roubaix. It is a success: the public discovers creations of astonishing modernity. It is enough to encourage her daughter and grand-daughter to reopen the workshop, which quickly finds a dynamic and original function: graphic design for high-end textiles and brands. The Atelier has recently enlarged its original activity with the launching of its own fashion accessories brand.
The drawings from the Zina de Plagny Workshop reveal a surprising modernity which agnès b. did not miss. Thus regularly since summer 2011, she includes a selection of original patterns in her designs which very naturally blend in with the spirit of her collection.
